I can't believe the anti-workshop is over already!! It was exactly what I was hoping it would be.
The Boutwells and
Coopers are some of the kindest, most unpretentious, and all-around bitchenest folks I've met in this industry (or in general!). It was a pleasure to hang out and learn from them!
for our grand finale this morning they arranged a shoot at the
Neon Boneyard. This place rocked- I've always wanted to check it out! Basically, this is where they retire all of the old Vegas signs. Very retro and cool - kind of spooky too! Totally reminds me of the
Heidleberg Project - one of my favorite spots in Michigan to shoot.
Anyhoo - a lovely altf bride came out to model for us. This activity was really more about watching how they approach a shoot and interact with their subjects. But of course, I snagged some shots of my own as I watched

One of the most valuable things I've gotten from this workshop is the rediscovery of shooting completely natural light. I've spent so much time learning to master different flash and strobe techniques that I think I'd lost sight of the basic truth that photography is, essentially, all about the sun. For the most part, we can achieve everything we aim to create using natural light.
Ok - enough rambling. Here are some images!!
the delightful Chenin Boutwell let me play with her tilt-shift (I've been lusting after one for awhile now, and after shooting with it I definitely need to get one!!
So now I've moved over to the strip, and the next leg (WPPI) starts up tomorrow!!
